What's Your Advice?

Advice: an opinion which someone offers you about what you should do or how you should act in a particular situation

My favorite definition of advice was from Mary Schmich who, while working at the Chicago Tribune fancied the idea of given a commencement speech for a graduation. Determining that she would in all likelihood never be invited to do so, she penned one anyway. The resulting column was put to music by Australian Buz Luhrmann and it became a smash hit around the world as “Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen),” which begins with words “Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of 1997… wear sunscreen. Urban legends surfaced abut this being written by Kurt Vonnegut as a speech given to MIT. In any case my favorite definition of advice comes from this piece:

“Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.”

In public forums advice has difficult job of trying to be applicable without being cache. Something must be common among all, age, job, pastime, faith, etc. But there are certain truths that transcend the barriers that separate us all.

My challenge to all who might stop here, tell me what you would say.

What do you hold true? What has been true throughout your life? What advice would you give?

You my reply anonymously, however I request that you please provide your age. Depending on the response, I will publish selections as one article in the future.
